Lee Jin-joon, a faculty member at the KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology, recently shared insights into his unconventional path through higher education. His academic journey included a doctorate in fine art from Oxford, completed over two and a half years, which contrasted significantly with his earlier experiences. During his master's studies in sculpture at Seoul National University, Lee faced substantial delays, including failing his qualifying examination three times. His struggles stemmed from a persistent commitment to media-based art, which conflicted with his professor's preference for traditional techniques. He eventually succeeded in his degree requirements only after his instructor retired. These experiences highlight the artist's history of navigating difficult and non-linear routes throughout his professional and academic development.
