On Saturday, October 10, a group of Buddhist monks initiated a protest march starting from the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. The demonstrators are calling for the release of Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera and are protesting the decision to remove his monastic robes while he remains incarcerated. Prior to the commencement of the march, a religious ceremony took place at the Magul Maduwa. During the event, Ven. Ulapane Sumangala Thera criticized the government's handling of the situation, asserting that Gnanasara Thera acted in the interest of the nation and the Buddhist faith. The participants began their procession near the Temple of the Tooth Relic, intending to travel toward the facility where the monk is currently detained.
