Former US President Donald Trump stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is eager to finalize a peace agreement regarding the ongoing war in Ukraine. During a press briefing at Joint Base Andrews, Trump asserted that he spoke with Putin recently and believes the Russian president is strongly motivated to reach a settlement. Conversely, Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his reluctance to pursue a compromise. Furthermore, Trump questioned the legitimacy of Zelensky's leadership, noting that no national elections have occurred in Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in 2022. The former president suggested that holding elections might have facilitated a resolution to the hostilities. Tensions between the two leaders were further highlighted by recent disagreements regarding US sanctions policy on Russian diesel and alleged Ukrainian military actions that defied Trump's directives.
