Elena Rybakina has achieved a historic milestone for Kazakhstan by securing the top position in the Women’s Tennis Association singles rankings. This accomplishment marks the first time a tennis player from the nation has reached the summit of the global standings in either the men’s or women’s categories. Rybakina attained this status following a quarterfinal victory over China’s Qinwen Zheng on September 9, which allowed her to surpass Aryna Sabalenka. While the live rankings currently reflect this change, the official WTA list is scheduled for update on September 14. Rybakina acknowledged the importance of this achievement for her country through a statement shared on her social media platform.
