The Hong Kong Buildings Department has initiated 259 legal actions against four individuals and two corporate entities linked to renovation projects at the Wang Fuk Court housing estate. These charges, filed nine months after a devastating fire in Tai Po, allege the use of inferior construction materials and a lack of proper project oversight. The legal proceedings follow a collaborative investigation conducted by the Buildings Department and the Independent Checking Unit of the Housing Bureau. Officials determined that the registered inspector responsible for the renovation failed to adequately monitor the repair work. The November blaze resulted in 168 fatalities and caused significant displacement for thousands of residents living in the government-subsidized complex.
