The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has officially updated the Motor Vehicles Rules to facilitate the use of E100 fuel in specifically engineered flex-fuel automobiles. This regulatory adjustment, which became active this Monday, enables these vehicles to operate on fuel composed almost entirely of ethanol, as well as E85 blends. It is important to note that these changes are restricted to vehicles built for such high-ethanol concentrations. Standard petrol vehicles, including those compatible with E20 fuel, remain ineligible for E85 or E100 usage. This initiative is part of the broader Ethanol Blended Petrol programme, which seeks to integrate ethanol derived from grains and sugarcane into the national fuel supply. By promoting these alternatives, the government aims to decrease the nation's reliance on traditional fossil fuel imports.
