Twelve months following the civil unrest associated with the Gen Z movement in September 2025, insurance providers have disbursed less than half of the requested compensation. Data from the Nepal Insurance Authority indicates that 3,390 claimants sought coverage for damages totaling Rs 23.19 billion. However, as of early July 2026, only Rs 8.82 billion has been paid out to affected parties. Representatives from the regulatory body noted that the discrepancy between claimed amounts and actual payouts stems from rigorous damage assessments conducted by insurers. These evaluations often result in downward adjustments to the initial figures submitted by policyholders, as some claims are deemed ineligible or inflated during the verification process. Consequently, many businesses and individuals remain waiting for the final resolution of their financial recovery efforts one year after the incidents.
