Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has publicly challenged the French government regarding its inconsistent application of human rights standards concerning public demonstrations. Baqaei highlighted that while French authorities previously characterized unrest in Iran as peaceful protests, they are currently labeling student-led demonstrations within France as urban violence. The Iranian official pointed out that French leadership has advocated for the use of force and rapid intervention to manage domestic unrest, while simultaneously blaming political agitators for the instability. Baqaei argued that the state has a duty to maintain public order, but he questioned the double standards applied by Paris. He emphasized that the principles of human rights and the right to protest should remain universal and consistent, regardless of the geographic location or the specific political context in which these events occur.
