Arfat Sheikh, a 42-year-old filmmaker from Kashmir, continues to be held by US immigration authorities following his detention at Washington Dulles International Airport on September 24. Although a bail hearing was slated for Tuesday morning in a Virginia immigration court, associates report that the proceeding did not occur as expected. Sheikh, who has resided in the United States since 2019, was apprehended upon arriving from San Francisco alongside author Tara Dorabji. The pair intended to participate in a discussion regarding torture survivors in Kashmir. Currently, Sheikh remains at the Caroline Detention Facility, and the timeline for his potential release remains uncertain due to the delay in legal proceedings.
