Kathmandu University’s Dhulikhel campus is currently hosting a three-day international workshop dedicated to the art of literary translation. The event, which commenced on September 11, 2026, is a collaborative effort between the university’s Department of Languages and Mass Communication and the South Asian Literature in Translation (SALT) initiative from the University of Chicago. Twenty-five participants are engaged in intensive training sessions covering prose translation from Nepali, Maithili, Tibetan, and Nepal Bhasa. The program features mentorship from prominent figures in the field, including Booker Prize winner Daisy Rockwell, Jason Grunebaum, Daniel Hahn, and Deepa Bhasthi. By connecting established writers and translators with emerging talent, the workshop aims to provide practical insights and enhance the professional capabilities of the next generation of literary translators in Nepal.
