The Taiex index experienced a significant drop of 755.64 points, or 1.61 percent, closing at 46,184.85 on Friday. This downturn was primarily driven by investor anxiety regarding potential interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve, following reports of rising producer prices and increased crude oil costs. The electronics sector faced heavy selling pressure, with major firms like TSMC, MediaTek, and ASE Technology recording notable losses. Conversely, the financial sector saw gains as investors sought stability, with companies like E. Sun Financial and Mega Financial rising. Market analysts noted that foreign institutional investors were net sellers, offloading NT$89.27 billion in shares. Attention is now shifting toward upcoming U.S. consumer price index data, which is expected to influence future monetary policy decisions. Trading turnover reached NT$721.91 billion during the session.
