The Malaysian government has confirmed its readiness to support Indonesia in addressing forest fires that have contributed to regional haze. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that the National Disaster Management Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have already provided Indonesian officials with a detailed inventory of available resources. Despite these preparations, Kuala Lumpur has yet to receive authorization from Jakarta to deploy its assets for firefighting operations. Permission from Indonesian authorities remains a mandatory requirement for any cross-border assistance. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has advocated for strengthening the existing Asean framework regarding transboundary haze to improve future management of such environmental incidents.
