At the Doha Global Security Forum, Datuk Professor Dr Mohd Faiz Abdullah, head of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia, emphasized the necessity of de-escalation regarding current West Asian tensions. He cautioned that the ongoing instability poses significant threats to both international security and the global economy. Specifically, he noted that disruptions to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz could lead to increased freight and insurance expenses. These logistical challenges risk creating a ripple effect that ultimately elevates the cost of living for households in Southeast Asia and beyond. Consequently, he advocated for enhanced regional cooperation and diplomatic engagement as essential measures to prevent further economic deterioration and ensure long-term stability in the face of these escalating geopolitical pressures.
