Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art has introduced a collaborative project titled Qom’a, aiming to set a Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous papier-mâché creation. The initiative invites 20,000 residents across Qatar to participate in constructing a massive sculpture using sustainable materials, including recycled exhibition catalogues and palm fibers. Supported by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change alongside the Ministry of Municipality, the project features interactive workshops for the public. The sculpture’s design draws inspiration from the rutab date, specifically the small cap connecting the fruit to its stalk, symbolizing a space for communal reflection. Originally conceptualized by local students, the artwork seeks to integrate cultural heritage with environmental awareness through collective artistic engagement.
