Director-general Dr. Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip clarified that current tracking data indicates ash clouds from Gunung Anak Krakatau are traveling toward the Indian Ocean, northwest of Sumatra, posing no threat to the peninsula, Sabah, or Sarawak. The department is coordinating with international monitoring authorities in Darwin, Australia, to maintain constant surveillance. Furthermore, officials addressed public confusion regarding the concurrent El Niño weather pattern, emphasizing that the volcanic activity and regional climate phenomena are entirely unrelated events.
