During an inquest at the Kota Kinabalu Coroner’s Court, Noraidah Lamat, the mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, provided testimony regarding the marks found on her daughter's body. The 46-year-old witness confirmed that she had previously questioned whether the bruising observed while bathing her daughter was the result of physical trauma. However, she accepted the medical expert's explanation that the marks were actually caused by blood clotting. Under questioning by legal counsel, Noraidah clarified that no medical professionals who attended to her daughter had ever verified that the injuries were inflicted by a blunt object. This testimony contradicts earlier public statements suggesting that the child had been struck.
