A collective of residents from West Kalimantan, known as Nafas Kalbar, has initiated legal action against the Indonesian government. The plaintiffs allege that state authorities demonstrated negligence in managing forest fires, which have contributed to severe haze conditions throughout Southeast Asia. The lawsuit, filed in Pontianak, asserts that the government failed to adequately oversee firefighting efforts. The legal challenge names 27 entities and individuals as defendants, including President Prabowo Subianto. An initial court hearing occurred on October 8, though none of the accused parties were present. The group seeks to hold the administration accountable for the environmental and health impacts resulting from the recurring blazes in the region.
