The Chinese Foreign Ministry has declared sanctions against government officials from Paraguay and Belize due to their ongoing diplomatic support for Taiwan. The individuals targeted include Paraguay’s Communications Minister, Gustavo Villate, and Belize’s Foreign Minister, Francis Fonseca. These punitive measures involve the freezing of any assets or property held by these officials within China, a prohibition on Chinese entities conducting business with them, and a ban on their entry into the country. Beijing justified these actions by accusing the ministers of prioritizing personal interests while persistently backing Taiwan, which China considers a breakaway province. This move follows recent bilateral discussions between Taiwanese leadership and representatives from these nations, further highlighting the ongoing diplomatic friction regarding Taiwan's international status.
