The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has officially dismissed an anticipatory bail application submitted by Shiranthi Rajapaksa, the spouse of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The former First Lady had sought legal protection to avoid potential arrest by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID). This legal move was linked to an ongoing probe concerning the Siriliya Saviya bank account. During a previous hearing on October 6, the court had requested that the FCID officer in charge provide details regarding the investigation. Following a review of the facts presented by the authorities today, the presiding Magistrate decided against granting the requested protection from arrest. The court's ruling effectively denies the request to prevent law enforcement from taking action against her in connection with the financial inquiry.
