Health authorities in Lesotho have officially declared a measles outbreak affecting the northern regions of Butha-Buthe and Leribe. Data recorded up to September 30 indicates 12 laboratory-confirmed cases alongside 20 additional suspected infections. The Ministry of Health, represented by deputy principal secretary Mants'oanelo Monyobi, stated that the situation was initially identified on September 23 at the Dr. Strong Thabo Makenete Hospital in Butha-Buthe. Following the identification of four initial suspected patients, the National Reference Laboratory verified the presence of the virus in three samples shortly thereafter. The early cases were linked to a school setting, prompting health officials to monitor the spread of the disease in these districts.
