Released ahead of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy, these files suggest that government officials provided inaccurate information to the public regarding the toxicity of the air near Ground Zero. During a press conference at City Hall, Mayor Mamdani stated that the health issues faced by many individuals were a direct result of misleading assurances from leadership. Comedian and activist Jon Stewart, a prominent advocate for the health of first responders, joined the Mayor to highlight the presence of hazardous substances in the environment after the collapse of the Twin Towers. The disclosure comes as the nation prepares to observe two and a half decades since the al-Qaeda hijackings that claimed nearly 3,000 lives.
