National People’s Power (NPP) Member of Parliament Dr. Najith Indika has publicly challenged SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa for drawing parallels between his current remand custody and the life of Nelson Mandela. During an SLPP rally in Anuradhapura, a message from Rajapaksa was shared, citing the late South African leader’s reflections on resilience during hardship. Dr. Indika dismissed this comparison, highlighting the fundamental differences in their situations. He noted that Mandela was incarcerated for nearly three decades due to his fight against the apartheid regime. In contrast, Indika emphasized that Rajapaksa is currently facing legal allegations, arguing that the two cases are not comparable. The NPP MP criticized the attempt to equate political imprisonment for human rights activism with the charges currently brought against the SLPP politician.
