Residents of Shakhovskoye village in northern Kazakhstan are reporting the sudden deaths of more than 13,000 geese. According to local accounts, the birds exhibit rapid symptom progression, including distinctive green diarrhea and erratic behavior, leading to death within hours. Despite attempts to treat the poultry with various medications and avian flu vaccinations, the mortality rate remains high. Many villagers, who invested in the birds using credit or borrowed funds with the expectation of seasonal profit, are now facing significant financial hardship. Local authorities have yet to identify the cause of this mass die-off, leaving farmers struggling to manage the economic fallout of their lost livestock.
