The prosecution team in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte has announced its intention to summon her as a witness. Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V noted that the Vice President's responses are often unpredictable and may not directly address the allegations. Despite this, Manila Representative Joel Chua stated that the primary objective remains the presentation of evidence to both the Senate and the public. The prosecution has decided to bypass fifteen other witnesses for the first article of impeachment, which concerns the alleged misuse of confidential funds, in favor of calling Duterte herself at a later stage. While the Vice President maintains her constitutional right against self-incrimination, the prosecution asserts that she is the most relevant witness for the issues at hand. The trial is set to transition to the second article of impeachment, focusing on claims of unexplained wealth, following the conclusion of evidence presentation regarding the confidential funds and alleged threats against the President.
