The West Bengal unit of the Congress party has initiated legal action against Dhirendra Shastri, the leader of Bageshwar Dham, following his recent remarks regarding dietary habits during Durga Puja. During a public gathering in Kolkata on Sunday, Shastri urged Hindus to abstain from consuming non-vegetarian food throughout the festival and within event venues. He characterized the consumption of meat during these celebrations as inappropriate. In response, Congress representatives have submitted police complaints across all districts of West Bengal. The party alleges that Shastri’s statements have offended the sentiments of the local population and disparaged the cultural traditions of the state. Pradip Prasad, a Congress leader from South Kolkata, has formally requested that authorities register a First Information Report against the religious figure for his comments.
