The Music Affairs Center, operating under Qatarās Ministry of Culture, has introduced the āLittle Nahamā program to safeguard the nationās seafaring musical legacy. This educational project focuses on instructing children in the rhythmic and vocal traditions historically practiced by pearl divers and sailors on traditional vessels. A group of ten young participants is currently receiving specialized training in these maritime arts, which include both performance techniques and the physical tasks associated with historical seafaring life. Among the trainees, two individuals are being groomed as lead sea singers, known as nahams. By providing hands-on experience with these cultural practices, the initiative aims to ensure that the countryās maritime heritage remains relevant and accessible to the younger generation, preserving the unique rhythms and movements that defined Qatarās historical relationship with the sea.
