Search and rescue teams in Nepal are persisting in their efforts to locate individuals trapped within hydropower tunnels, fourteen days following a catastrophic glacial collapse that triggered massive flooding. The disaster, which originated near the border with China on August 26, released a torrent of mud and debris, resulting in a significant loss of life. Official figures indicate that over 1,400 people have died, with thousands more remaining unaccounted for across the region. Operations are currently focused on the Trishuli and Chilime hydropower project sites. Authorities report that the casualty count includes both local residents and hundreds of foreign nationals. While recovery efforts continue, the disaster management agencies in Kathmandu and Chinese state media maintain that the search for the missing remains a high priority despite the passage of time.
