Over 1,000 personnel are participating in a two-day emergency simulation at the Beloyarsk nuclear facility in the Sverdlovsk region. The exercise, which is the largest of its kind in Russia this year, tests the response to simultaneous reactor failures triggered by a natural disaster. Operations at the plant remain unaffected during the drill, which involves coordination between plant staff, emergency services, military units, and observers from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Activities include debris removal, fire suppression, decontamination procedures, and evacuation rehearsals in the nearby town of Zarechny. These annual drills are mandated by federal regulations and align with International Atomic Energy Agency safety standards to ensure preparedness for complex, multi-reactor incidents. While the scenario focuses on technical and natural hazards, the exercise occurs against a backdrop of recent drone activity reported at other Russian nuclear sites.
