The Tashkent municipal government has announced plans to expand its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network by adding 17.9 kilometers of dedicated lanes. This initiative aims to prioritize public transportation and decrease reliance on private vehicles. Following an analysis of over 150 kilometers of existing transit routes, officials selected specific corridors, including Qoratosh and Ko‘kcha Darvoza streets, where tram services previously operated. The project, estimated to cost 6.5 billion soums, will be funded by the Tashkent City Development Fund. Construction will involve rigorous infrastructure inspections, the installation of high-quality road surfaces using polymer-modified asphalt, and improvements to pedestrian facilities and lighting. Contractors will be selected through a competitive bidding process, and the administration has committed to maintaining transparency throughout the development stages. This expansion builds upon ongoing BRT projects currently underway on Shahrisabz street and other major thoroughfares.
