The United Arab Emirates experienced a 4 per cent increase in hiring during the third quarter, marking the strongest growth across the Gulf region. This rebound follows a 4 per cent contraction observed in the second quarter, driven by a resurgence in business demand and a notable acceleration in export activity by September. Despite this positive trend, the Cooper Fitch employment index indicates that firms maintain a guarded outlook regarding future prospects. Across the broader Gulf Cooperation Council, recruitment grew by 2 per cent, with Saudi Arabia and Oman also reporting gains. Conversely, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain saw declines in their respective labor markets. These economic shifts occur against the backdrop of regional instability stemming from the conflict involving Iran, which continues to exert pressure on the economic landscape of the Middle East.
