The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has issued updated guidelines regarding the inspection of checked baggage. Starting October 16, 2026, security personnel are authorized to open and examine checked bags if screening processes detect suspicious items or potential security risks. These inspections must be conducted in a manner that is both necessary and proportionate to the identified threat. To ensure transparency and accountability, all such searches must be documented through recording. Furthermore, the authorities are required to provide formal notification to the affected passenger following the completion of the inspection. This policy aims to streamline security operations at airports while maintaining safety standards for all travelers. The regulator emphasized that these measures are designed to address irregularities effectively while upholding established procedural requirements for baggage handling.
