Turkish law enforcement officials at the Port of Mersin have confiscated approximately 350 kilograms of cocaine discovered within the hull of a cargo vessel. Justice Minister Akın Gürlek confirmed that the illicit shipment, valued at roughly 1.5 billion Turkish Lira, was hidden in 12 separate packages near the engine cooling intake. Nine individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the discovery. According to investigators, the smuggling operation intended to utilize divers and specialized underwater equipment, including a scooter, to retrieve the narcotics for distribution in western Turkey. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with support from intelligence and anti-narcotics units.
