Dr. Nasser bin Hamad al-Hinzab, the chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board and Qatar’s Permanent Representative, recently highlighted the critical role of education and cultural dialogue in fostering global peace. During the opening of the 225th session of the Executive Board, he argued that peace is cultivated through knowledge and mutual respect within educational settings rather than merely being a post-conflict outcome. Dr. al-Hinzab issued a strong appeal to safeguard schools and universities from violence, characterizing these institutions as essential sanctuaries for learning and future development. He cautioned that targeting educational facilities inflicts long-term damage on the prospects of future generations, effectively undermining the stability and progress of societies. His address underscored the necessity of prioritizing the protection of academic environments to ensure sustainable peace and cross-cultural understanding.
