Deepak Kumar, a gym proprietor based in Dehradun, was taken into custody by authorities on Thursday. The arrest follows accusations of physical assault against a local trader named Sanjeev Tonk. According to Pauri Garhwal Senior Superintendent of Police Sarvesh Panwar, the incident reportedly stemmed from an online disagreement regarding a social media post Kumar shared concerning the demolition of a mosque in Ujjain. Tonk alleged that he commented on the post, which led to a confrontation at his place of business. Kumar had previously gained public attention for opposing the harassment of an elderly Muslim shopkeeper by individuals identified as members of the Bajrang Dal earlier this year. Police have initiated a formal investigation, filing a first information report that includes charges related to criminal intimidation and intentional insult.
