Uzbekistan grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov has been named the inaugural FIDE Best Male Chess Player at the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. This new biennial award honors exceptional performance during the 2024–2026 Olympic cycle. Sindarov, supported by the National Bank of Uzbekistan, was selected from a shortlist of ten elite grandmasters following his victory at the 2025 FIDE World Cup and his 2026 Candidates Tournament win. His recent achievements include breaking into the global top four rankings. During the Samarkand Olympiad, Sindarov also contributed to the Uzbek men’s team securing their second consecutive Olympic gold medal, while earning an individual bronze on the second board. The FIDE Excellence Awards, which feature 11 categories, also recognized India’s Divya Deshmukh as the Best Female Chess Player.
