Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has advocated for the rapid adoption of a system enabling citizens to travel between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan using only ID cards. During a discussion with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, the president highlighted that the recent surge in cross-border freight transport necessitates more efficient transit procedures. Mirziyoyev noted that bilateral relations have significantly improved since he took office, contrasting current trade levels with the previously restricted border conditions. The proposal to utilize ID cards for entry was initially discussed in November 2024. By streamlining these administrative processes, the administration aims to further strengthen the growing economic and diplomatic ties between the two neighboring nations.
