During a meeting with President Lai Ching-te in Taipei, Bloc QuĂ©bĂ©cois leader Yves-François Blanchet expressed support for Taiwanâs inclusion in international organizations, including the World Health Organization and the CPTPP. Blanchet emphasized that Taiwanâs participation in global bodies is legitimate and necessary, particularly in light of regional security concerns. He also pledged to encourage the Canadian government to finalize a trade cooperation framework with Taiwan. The delegation, marking the first such visit by the party since its 1991 founding, highlighted shared values regarding self-determination and cultural identity. President Lai welcomed the support, noting that the Bloc QuĂ©bĂ©cois had previously backed a motion clarifying that U.N. Resolution 2758 does not grant China sovereignty over Taiwan. Both sides identified potential for future collaboration in sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy.
