On September 11, 2026, the United States will mark a quarter-century since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Ceremonies at the memorial site in Lower Manhattan will include the traditional reading of victims' names, synchronized with the precise timing of the four hijacked flights and the collapse of the towers. For the first time, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum has introduced a seventh moment of silence. This addition is intended to pay tribute to survivors, first responders, and local residents who succumbed to health complications linked to the disaster in the years following the event. This inclusion highlights the enduring impact of the tragedy beyond the immediate loss of life on that day, reflecting the long-term physical and emotional toll suffered by those exposed to the aftermath of the attacks.
