United States federal authorities are pursuing a Filipino national, Rommel Bacani, who is accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl in Saipan. According to an FBI affidavit unsealed recently, the suspect allegedly fled to the Philippines on May 10, 2024, shortly after local law enforcement began investigating claims that he abused the minor with the consent of her mother. Formal charges were filed against Bacani in the Northern Mariana Islands Superior Court in May 2025, including counts of first and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor and disturbing the peace. If convicted, the suspect faces a potential prison term of up to 30 years. The investigation into the incident originated from a Department of Public Safety inquiry initiated in March 2024.
