Hong Kong environmental officials have mandated that the contractor for the I·PARK1 waste-to-energy plant provide a comprehensive incident report within seven days. This directive follows a significant fire that occurred on Monday at the facility, which is situated on an artificial island near Shek Kwu Chau. The blaze, classified as a No. 3 alarm, required approximately three hours for fire crews to extinguish. During the emergency, nearly 1,000 individuals were evacuated from the site, and one person was transported to a medical facility for treatment. As the city's inaugural waste-to-energy plant, the incident has prompted an official review to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire. The Fire Services Department successfully brought the situation under control by late afternoon, and authorities are now focused on the mandatory reporting process to ensure future safety standards are maintained.
