The University of Hong Kong's Jockey Club Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention recently released updated data indicating a concerning trend regarding youth mental health. Although the general suicide rate across the city experienced a slight decline from 13.8 to 13 per 100,000 residents between 2024 and 2025, the figures for children under the age of 15 showed a threefold increase. In response to these findings, academic experts are calling for educational institutions to enhance their mental health support systems and awareness programs. The report emphasizes the urgent need for schools and media outlets to adopt more effective strategies to address this growing crisis among the youngest demographic. Various support hotlines remain available for those in need of immediate assistance.
