Yemeni Houthi fighters have successfully taken control of the strategic Perim Island, also referred to as Mayun Island, located within the Bab al-Mandab Strait. This development has intensified the ongoing regional conflict, raising significant concerns regarding the security of oil transport through the Gulf. The disruption has contributed to a rise in global crude oil prices, which have now surpassed $100 per barrel. In response to this territorial gain by the Houthis, Saudi Arabia has requested military aid from the United States. Currently, the American government has restricted its involvement to providing intelligence and targeting assistance, stopping short of direct military engagement in the area.
