Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently confirmed that the Indian government has committed to providing substantial funding for the development of the Anuradhapura Sacred City. Speaking at a public event in Ibbagamuwa, the President emphasized that this initiative reflects the robust diplomatic ties currently shared between the two nations. Dissanayake referenced previous Indian support, including a 100 million USD aid package following Cyclone Ditwah and various infrastructure contributions such as bridge construction. The President also acknowledged recent high-level diplomatic engagements, noting that the Indian External Affairs Minister visited Colombo as a special envoy to discuss deepening bilateral collaboration. This development is part of a broader strategy by the current administration to strengthen international partnerships while advancing domestic infrastructure projects of cultural and historical significance.
