The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced that the NV Sunshine, a liquefied petroleum gas carrier, suffered a significant engine room fire while navigating an unauthorized path south of the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian military leadership used the incident to emphasize their control over the waterway, warning that they will not tolerate foreign interference or unauthorized transit. The IRGC accused the United States of heightening regional maritime risks by influencing shipping and insurance decisions. Furthermore, Iranian commanders stated that security in the Persian Gulf is a regional responsibility and warned that any vessels utilizing unauthorized routes could face enforcement actions beyond the immediate vicinity of the strait. Major General Ahmad Vahidi reiterated that Iran is prepared to use its military capabilities, including drones and missile systems, to maintain its strategic interests and national sovereignty in the area.
