Russian public health agency Rospotrebnadzor has officially ruled out the possibility of a plague outbreak in Siberia following the death of a research institute employee from pneumonia. The agency confirmed that the situation is contained within Russia, posing no threat to international locations, including Thailand. Following extensive medical investigations, including nearly 5,000 laboratory tests, officials found no evidence of pathogen transmission among individuals who had contact with the deceased worker. Consequently, the majority of those previously quarantined have been released. The health authority noted that the employee had been vaccinated and possessed immunity. Rospotrebnadzor has begun lifting the initial precautionary measures and has shared updated findings with the World Health Organization to ensure transparency regarding the incident.
