Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the Nationalist Movement Party and a key political partner of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has publicly called for Turkey and Azerbaijan to resolve their current diplomatic tensions. Bahçeli emphasized that minor disagreements must not be permitted to evolve into permanent fractures between the two nations. This statement follows recent friction regarding headscarf regulations in Azerbaijani schools. The controversy led to the resignation of Oktay Saral, a senior advisor to Erdoğan, who stepped down after criticizing Baku’s policy. Saral confirmed that his departure was mandated by the Turkish president following his public remarks on the matter. Bahçeli’s intervention aims to stabilize the bilateral relationship and prevent further political fallout from the ongoing dispute.
