The Perak state legislative assembly has officially appointed Hairul Amir Sabri, the state PKR chairman, as a member of the Dewan Negara. During the voting process, the 38-year-old secured 33 votes, successfully surpassing his opponent, Zulkifli Zakaria of PAS, who received 26 votes. This senatorial position became available following the conclusion of the term held by Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa on May 24. The nomination was formally introduced by Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad in accordance with Article 45(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution. Sandrea Ng, representing the state government, put forward Hairul Amir’s candidacy for the seat. The election process was confirmed by Perak state assembly speaker Zahir Abdul Khalid following the conclusion of the ballot.
