A unique harpsichord adorned with intricate lacquer carvings from the Mexican town of Olinalá has become a focal point for visitors at the G56 Hub Creativo in Mexico City. This instrument, featuring craftsmanship traditionally reserved for smaller household items, highlights a shared aesthetic appreciation that draws parallels to lacquer traditions found in Russia, China, and Japan. The instrument was showcased during a residency program hosted by the co-operative gallery Hiperlocalidad, managed by Martín Salido and Antonio Mendoza. This event, held as part of Design Week México, was organized under the auspices of Qatar’s Year of Culture initiative. The exhibition encouraged dialogue regarding the transformation of everyday design techniques into extraordinary artistic expressions, fostering a deeper cultural exchange between Qatar and Mexico through the medium of creative design.
