In the Taltung area of Gulmi, Nepal, community members are actively working to protect the Sarai dance, a cultural practice traditionally performed during the Dashain festival. This dance, which involves participants wielding swords while moving to rhythmic music at local temples and forts, serves as a tribute to Goddess Bhagwati and a symbol of communal unity. Despite its historical significance, the tradition has faced threats due to shifting modern lifestyles and a lack of engagement from the younger generation. To counter this decline, local residents have initiated efforts to bridge the gap between elders and youth, ensuring that the knowledge and skills required for the performance are successfully transmitted to future generations. These collective actions aim to preserve the heritage of this unique cultural art form against the risk of fading away.
