Minister Vijitha Herath confirmed that the proposed legislation has secured approval from the Attorney General and is now slated for parliamentary presentation. This initiative aims to establish a modern legal framework that aligns with global standards for addressing criminal syndicates. Currently, many suspects involved in such activities are held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, a methodology the administration intends to phase out. Officials stated that the new law is designed to enhance the effectiveness of legal proceedings, particularly regarding the prosecution of figures who have escaped to foreign jurisdictions. By creating this dedicated statute, the government seeks to streamline its approach to dismantling organized crime networks within the country.
